Embrace Elegance In A 3 Piece Pinstripe Suit

The pinstripe suit according to historians traces its origin to Britain, the most famous wearer being the Prime Sir Minister Winston Churchill during his tenure as the prime minister. In the United States, there are two stories about the origin of the 3 Piece Pinstripe Suit, one is associated with the banking uniforms. Another source claims the suit originated from the sports apparel like the boating uniform in the 1800s and the baseball uniforms this fashion was then adopted into the official 3 Piece Pinstripe Suit.

The three-piece pinstripe suit is a more formal dressing that should be worn to formal events especially when donning dark colors. However, with lighter colors, the suit can be worn to less formal events.

Rules of Wearing a Three Piece

  1. The button of the jacket should always be left undone. This fashion rule originates from King Edward VII and the reasoning behind it is to reduce bulging especially at the mid-region because you are wearing a waistcoat already.
  2. The waistcoat should finish at the waist and it should cover just the waistline. This is the area where many people get it wrong wearing it too short would make the shirt appear at the bottom which spoils the effect. A long waistcoat gives off the effect of a long torso particularly since the pinstriped suit already makes a person appear taller. The customary number of buttons should be between 5 and 6. However, for this particular pinstripe suit, it is recommended to even do fewer buttons.
  3. The top button of your shirt should always be buttoned. For this suit principally being a formal clothing should be worn with a tie, depending on the color of the pinstripe shirts can be mostly white or blue color such that the tie you can go bold.
  4. The shoes should also match the pitch of the suit such that there won’t be a confused look.
